NEW YORK — New York FC and the New York RED BULLS will meet for the first time in the first round of the MLS playoffs.

New York hosted Sporting Kansas City on Saturday, and the Red Bulls defeated the New England Revolution 2-1 in the second leg.

New England won both matches at Red Bull Arena.

New Orleans beat the Houston Dynamo 2-0 at Toyota Stadium on Saturday.

The Red Bulls have won the past three meetings between the teams, including a 3-2 win at Red Bulls Stadium on April 4, 2013.

The Red Bulls are unbeaten in the four meetings since their opening match of the 2013 season.

After losing their opener, New York won all four matches they played in March and April to advance to the semifinals.

The winner of Saturday’s match will face Sporting Kansas.

The teams will meet again for the second-round matchup in the Eastern Conference playoff playoffs on Wednesday.

New Yorkers coach Patrick Vieira said the Red Bull’s victory was an encouraging one.

“We were a little bit surprised that they went down a goal in the third quarter,” Vieira told ESPN FC.

“We were expecting to be a bit more dangerous.

But they had an incredible performance.”

The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m.

ET (1030 GMT).
