By JOHN P. MORRISONAssociated PressHealth officials have reported that Maryland and Pennsylvania have reported the first recorded cases of the highly contagious coronavirus, which has killed at least 21 people.

Maryland Health Department spokeswoman Jenelle Nesby said Monday that the state has registered 3,831 cases and 1,764 deaths from the virus.

A total of 963 people have died of the disease.

Pennsylvania Health Commissioner Dr. Daniel P. Burt said on Twitter that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recorded the first known case of coronaviruses coronavirostasis virus type 1 in Pennsylvania.

The CDC said that the agency has seen an uptick in cases in Pennsylvania due to the warmer temperatures.

Officials said Monday they have not identified the person who is behind the outbreak.
